Man with mustache accused of refusing to leave nightclub's women's restroom and telling female clubgoers, “I identify as a woman”

A mustachioed man has been accused of refusing to leave the women's restroom at a nightclub because he said he identified as a woman.

University student Connie Shaw, 20, was out visiting students at the Warehouse in Leeds, West York, when she spotted the man in the women's toilet on Monday.

She said the man, who was wearing a black T-shirt and was not identified, refused to leave the toilets and told protesters: “I identify as a woman.”

A bouncer at the club was alerted to the situation and eventually kicked him out of the restrooms.

The third-year Leeds University student has now spoken of her “outrage” at the ordeal.

She said: “It was as if he had prepared himself to answer that if anyone questioned him. “There was no hesitation.”

Ms Shaw, who was with a friend, sought help to get him out.

She told MailOnline: “[Other women and girls were] I just tell him to get out – it's loud in there, that's all I could hear, and when I heard him say he identifies as a woman I immediately got a bouncer.”

The philosophy, ethics and religion student added: “He stood with his back to the cubicle and just seemed to scan the room.”

“I'm not sure who he was with or if he was waiting for someone.” I was just outraged that he was even in there, and even more so that he was because of gender ideology and the pursuit of self -ID fully knew how to use it to his advantage.”

She reported the incident to West Yorkshire Police, but police told her it was not a crime and it was “up to the establishment to deal with it”.

She continued: “Especially in universities, we are told to be completely inclusive and not question. “Now more than ever, women are not guaranteed a same-sex space.”

She added: “When Sarah Everard was murdered many feminists were outraged by saying 'not all men', but now when it comes to men who identify as women that logic no longer applies.”

“Somehow, according to trans activists, 'real' trans women do not pose a threat to women.” But how do we know who the “real” ones are?

She added: “What happened to the Me Too movement's 'Believe All Women'? “I was accused by transgender activists of making up this story.”

Ms Shaw shared a picture of the man in a post on social media, sparking a wave of reaction.

One of the many people who liked her tweet was Harry Potter author JK Rowling.

Rowling previously said that women's rights were under “the biggest attack of my life” from trans activists and she regretted not speaking out “much sooner.”

The 58-year-old Harry Potter author has previously been criticized for her strong views on gender identity, but has always vigorously denied accusations of transphobia.

But since this video, she has been accused of going into the men's room.

She said: “Trans activists told me they don't believe the man's photo is actually in the toilet because toilets are never that dark.”

She added: “I was accused of going into the men's room myself and just taking a photo of a random man.”

She offered no criticism of the club's handling of the situation and said once the man was discovered he was “removed very quickly and decisively”.

It is not clear whether he has been completely removed from the club.

The Warehouse has been contacted for comment.
