Fryeburg man charged with possession of child sexual abuse images following incident in New Hampshire

FRYEBURG, Maine (WMTW) – A Fryeburg man was arrested Saturday and extradited to New Hampshire to face charges of possessing child sexual abuse images.

The North Conway police chief said his officers began investigating Christopher Evans on Thursday after responding to reports of suspicious activity at Kennett High School.

That evening, police said, two female students reported that Evans was acting suspiciously on the athletic fields during a boys soccer game. A school officer arrested Evans on charges of loitering and prowling and was released later that night.

According to police, the incident led to further investigation into Evans, which ultimately led to a warrant and an arrest for possession of child abuse images.

The police chief in North Conway thanked the school resource officer who took the matter seriously and the two students who spoke up and reported it.

“Above all, I would like to thank the two Kennett students who were aware that something was wrong and had the courage to take appropriate action when reporting the incident,” Principal Christopher Mattei wrote in a press release.

The chief added that the investigation into Evans is ongoing, but he does not believe there is any further threat to the public.

Evans is currently being held at the Carrol County House of Corrections, where he is awaiting arraignment.
