Governor Wolf Elementary School to be closed Friday after shooting nearby | Lehigh Valley Regional News

NORTHAMPTON CO., Pa. – School officials have announced that Governor Wolf Elementary School will remain closed Friday as the investigation continues after a shooting nearby left a man critically injured.

Police were called to the 1900 block of Butztown Road, about four houses from the elementary school, at 9:27 p.m. after a 911 call came in about a shooting.

The 911 caller said a male victim was shot and the suspect fled on foot.

Arriving officers found an adult male with a gunshot wound to the body and immediately administered first aid. The man was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

69 News spoke with a neighbor this morning who was taking his child to school before learning the school would be closing. The neighbor said there were police cars in the parking lot and there was crime scene tape around the school last night.

The shooting did not occur at the school, but the district said police in the area were investigating, which is why they decided to close Friday.

Neighbors told 69 News they heard it was a drug deal gone bad. A man said he heard two shots.

Police say there have been no arrests so far, but believe it was a targeted attack and say there is no threat to the public.

Police told 69 News they expect to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect this morning.
