Steuben County man accused of threatening police officer with machete – Finger Lakes Daily News

A Steuben County man is facing charges after he allegedly threw a machete at a police officer.

State Police said this happened while responding to a reported disturbance in the town of Caton. When Dana McCarrick was being questioned, the 49-year-old took a machete out of a box and showed it to the police officer. McCarrick was given several verbal instructions to put the gun away as he threw it at the officer and then walked away.

The Corning man was eventually taken into custody and charged with felony terrorism, felony threatening a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon, and several misdemeanors.

McCarrick was taken to the Steuben County Jail to await arraignment.

The fact that a defendant is accused of a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
