Bethalto man pleads guilty to murder of Shipman's wife and dog – WLDS

The Macoupin County Prosecutor's Office has announced that a former Bethalto man has pleaded guilty to the February 2023 murder of his wife in Shipman.

Jacob T. Kimbro Sr., 37, entered the plea today before Macoupin County Judge Joshua Meyer.

On the afternoon of February 25, 2023, Macoupin County Emergency Dispatch received a call that a man had been shot and a woman was possibly killed at a residence in the 500 block of Young Lane in Shipman. An officer responded to the residence and discovered that 31-year-old Theresa Kimbro had died from gunshot wounds, a dog had died from gunshot wounds, and Theresa's father, John Sullivan, had been seriously injured from gunshot wounds. Sullivan was later transported from the scene to a St. Louis area hospital. Information about Sullivan's recovery is not available at this time.

Reports of a white truck fleeing the scene were received by local law enforcement and were traced to Madison County, where Jacob Kimbro was taken into custody following reports of a “suicidal man with a handgun” in Cottage Hills . After a heated argument, Kimbro was arrested and taken to the Macoupin County Jail, where he has remained in custody since.

The case progressed through the court system for more than a year, including multiple preliminary hearings, attorney changes and various motions, online court records show.

Macoupin County Prosecutor Jordan Garrison thanked members of the Macoupin County Sheriff's Department for their investigation and arrest of Jacob Kimbro, which he said represents “another step toward justice” for Theresa Kimbro.

According to the plea, charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a firearm by a felon and aggravated cruelty to animals were all dropped.

Jacob Kimbro faces a prison sentence of between 20 and 60 years for the single count of first-degree murder. If Kimbro receives the maximum sentence, he would not be eligible for parole until 2073. Sentencing is scheduled for October 23rdapprox.
