2 arrested after cocaine was found when small plane from Mesa landed on California highway

MESA, AZ (AZFamily) — Two California residents were arrested after cocaine was found when their small plane made an emergency landing on a highway after taking off from Falcon Field Airport in Mesa.

Oceanside, California police responded to the small plane that landed unexpectedly on State Route 76 near Canyon Drive around 1:30 a.m. on September 26th.

The plane landed on the road with no reported injuries. The pilot stated an engine failure as the reason for the emergency landing.

According to police, a kilogram of cocaine was found during a search of the aircraft. Two suspects, 21-year-old Gabriel Leon Breit and 36-year-old Troy Othneil Smith, both of Oceanside, were arrested.
