Norwich woman charged with attempted murder by stabbing: police

NORWICH, CT – A woman is accused of stabbing and injuring a victim, according to police.

Police received a call at 11:25 a.m. Thursday reporting an assault. Police were dispatched to an address on Briar Lane where two injured women were located.

At the apartment, police determined that a female victim had “sustained significant injuries from multiple stab wounds to areas of her upper body consistent with a stab wound,” a police statement said.

Both women were taken to Backus Hospital for treatment while officers secured the home pending a search and seizure warrant.

The victim remains in hospital in stable condition.

The police investigated and prepared an arrest warrant.

Mary Beth Kostek, 45, of Norwich, was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault and cruelty to persons.

She was being held on $1.5 million bond and was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in Norwich Superior Court.
