St. Albans Parish was rocked by another shooting this month, the shooter remains at large: NYPD – QNS

Police from the 113th District in Jamaica are investigating another shooting incident in St. Albans, but the latest case was not fatal.

The latest shooting occurred in broad daylight in a quiet apartment complex on the afternoon of Tuesday, September 17th. A 21-year-old man was walking past a house at 118-17 197th St. shortly after 3 p.m. when a stranger approached him. Police said he pulled out a handgun and fired several shots, hitting the young man in the back .

The shooter fled the scene on foot and was last seen running north on 197th Street toward Linden Boulevard. The victim was transported via private transportation to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where he was in stable condition.

The NYPD released surveillance images of the suspect on Thursday evening, showing him holding a black handgun in his right hand. He has a medium complexion and was wearing a gray hoodie, blue sweatpants with white stripes on the legs, white sneakers with a blue Nike swoosh logo and a white baseball cap on the back.

As of Sept. 22, the 113th Precinct has reported 13 shootings so far in 2024, two more than the 11 reported at the same time last year, an increase of 18.2%, according to the latest CompStat report .

The close-knit community of St. Albans has been thrown into turmoil in recent weeks after a 15-year-old boy got into an argument with a rival gang member and allegedly fired a 9mm handgun multiple times outside the kitchen of Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen at 117-13 Farmers Blvd. on the afternoon of September 16th. At the same time, motorist William Alcindor, 66, of Cambria Heights was driving by and was shot once in the head and twice in the body, causing him to lose control of his Nissan Rogue SUV and crash into a 23-year-old woman on the sidewalk and then crashed into an empty storefront.

EMS took Alcindor and the injured pedestrian to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The teen was arrested on Wednesday, September 18 and arraigned that evening in Queens Criminal Court, where he was charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

“Instead of avoiding a verbal altercation with a rival gang member, this juvenile defendant allegedly pulled out his gun and fired bullets across Farmers Boulevard in the middle of the afternoon,” Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz said after the arraignment. “A 66-year-old father of three is now dead and an innocent pedestrian is seriously injured as a result of this defendant’s alleged actions.”

Judge Edward Daniels remanded the unidentified minor in custody without bail. If convicted, he could face up to 15 years to life in prison.

“Our thoughts are with the family of William Alcindor and the young woman who is now cooperating with her injuries as we prosecute this completely senseless act of gun violence,” Katz said.
