Johnstown man convicted of second-degree murder in fatal 2020 Indiana Co. shooting

Authorities say a Johnstown man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being convicted in a fatal shooting in Indiana County nearly four years ago.

Officials say Terrion Gates was first arrested and charged with murder in March 2021, months after police said he shot a man during a robbery.

Investigators say Gates was among a group of four people who planned to rob 20-year-old Jaedyn Wright of Pittsburgh in October 2020 outside the Carriage House Apartments near the IUP campus.

Police say Gates reportedly escalated the situation by bringing a gun, which he used to shoot and kill Wright during the robbery.

According to prosecutors, Gates appeared in court earlier this week where the jury deliberated for less than three hours before finding him guilty of second-degree murder, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.

The Indiana County District Attorney's Office says Gates faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Officials say the sentencing hearing is scheduled for Nov. 15.
