The victim of the Gettysburg College carving incident has not pressed charges and the investigation is ongoing

After an incident in which a Gettysburg College student carved an insult into another student's chest on Sept. 6, Gettysburg police say the victim will not press charges and that the investigation is continuing as part of the college's disciplinary process .

The incident was reported by Gettysburg College on Sept. 18 in a statement addressing a report in which a student used a plastic or ceramic tool to use a racial slur on a fellow member of the college's swimming team.

“The college has received a deeply concerning report of a racial slur scratched on a student using a plastic or ceramic tool. This is a serious report that will be actively evaluated as part of the student conduct process,” Gettysburg College said.

A statement from the Gettysburg Police Chief said the victim decided not to press charges after he was reportedly “encouraged” by Gettysburg College to contact law enforcement. Police say they do not currently know the identity of the victim or those involved.

A statement from the victim's parents said complaints were filed with the Harrisburg chapter of the NAACP and the NAACP Pennsylvania Conference.
