Kate Middleton speaks out after surprise trip to ballet after chemotherapy

Kate Middleton had a day at the ballet, two weeks after announcing she had completed her chemotherapy treatment.

On September 26, the Princess of Wales privately attended a matinee performance of Giselle by the English National Ballet at Sadler's Wells Theater in London. PEOPLE understands that Kate enjoyed the performance so much that she wanted to share a personal message about it.

“Congratulations and many thanks to @ENBallet and @Sadlers_Wells for the wonderfully powerful, moving and inspiring performance of Akram Khan's Giselle. Creativity at its finest!” wrote the Princess of Wales on X, posting a photo of artists on the ballet stage.

Princess Kate, 42, signed the post with “C,” using the shorthand for the first letter of her full name, as she and her husband Prince William are known to do when messages come directly from them.

Although she is not the royal patron of England's National Ballet (Queen Camilla holds that role), Princess Kate is known to have a keen interest in ballet and has taken her daughter Princess Charlotte, 9, to performances privately in the past.

The Princess of Wales's latest ballet performance, which is little known, comes two weeks after she announced in a video message on September 9 that she had completed chemotherapy.

Princess Kate announced in March that she was undergoing treatment for cancer and stayed out of the spotlight for most of the year to privately prioritize her health.

“My focus now is on doing what I can to stay cancer-free. Even though I have finished chemotherapy, my road to healing and full recovery is still long and I must continue to take each day as it comes,” Princess Kate said in part in the message, which was shared via an intimate video of her and Prince William with her children Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (6).

“However, I look forward to being back at work in the coming months and taking on a few more public engagements when I can,” she said. “Despite everything that has happened before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a new sense of hope and appreciation for life.”

On September 17, the Princess of Wales began her first official work assignment since completing chemotherapy when she held a meeting for her early childhood development project at Windsor Castle. The meeting marked their first entry into the court circular, the official record of engagements carried out by working members of the royal family, for 2024.

The Princess of Wales began working from home in early summer and is believed to be hoping to attend the memorial service on November 10.

Kate is also looking forward to her annual carol concert in December and held a meeting with her team from Kensington Palace and the Royal Foundation on September 24 to discuss plans for the fourth annual service, which will highlight and honor causes that Her and William's hearts are dear to their hearts.
