Woman pleads guilty to attempted murder in bar shooting that injured five people in 2023

DENVER – A woman accused of shooting five people after she was denied entry to a bar in Denver's Lower Downtown neighborhood last September reached a plea deal Friday in Denver District Court.

Keanna Rosenburgh, 18, pleaded guilty to attempted murder in connection with the Sept. 16, 2023, shooting outside Dierks Bentley's Whiskey Row, 1946 Market St.

As Denver7 reported at the time based on information from the Denver Police Department, Rosenburgh was denied entry to the bar and began to walk away, but quickly returned to have another conversation with security.

As she walked away a second time, police allege Rosenburgh pulled out a firearm and fired several shots toward the club, injuring several people who officers believed were not the intended targets.

After the shooting, officers, some of whom were off-duty in the area, responded quickly and found a total of five adult victims. Paramedics took the victims to the hospital with injuries that police said were not life-threatening.

Rosenburgh was arrested about a month later, on October 19, in Barstow, California, about 122 miles northwest of Los Angeles.

When she is sentenced on January 22, 2025, she faces up to seven years in the Colorado Youthful Offender System and 21 years of probation in the Colorado Department of Corrections.

“I was on my way home so it was even earlier in the night. I was actually on the sidewalk trying to walk home and heard gunshots and thought maybe I had stumbled and then I realized I couldn't.” “Get up,” said Desarae Gomez, who was in that night both legs were shot.

She has undergone several surgeries over the last year and still has a long road to recovery before she can regain full use of her legs.

“A lot of people were affected that night and I don’t agree. I don’t think the agreement should have happened that way,” she said. “If a murder attempt is at least eight years old and she has eight murder attempts, the logic doesn’t apply.”

Denver7 reached out to the Denver District Attorney's Office, who released a statement explaining the reasons for their decision.

“Several factors went into the decision to offer a plea deal in this case, including the seriousness of the crime and the wishes of the victims, but also Ms. Rosenburgh's age at the time of the crime and the lack of a prior history.” Having considered all of this, we believe , that the plea agreement will hold the defendant accountable for her actions while providing a path for her rehabilitation. It should also be noted that the juvenile offender system is a rigorous program that places significant requirements and restrictions on juvenile offenders, and should Ms. Rosenburgh be unable to complete the program, she will be sentenced to 21 years in prison .”

Gomez said that as she continues her recovery, she hopes there will be a day when people can go out on a Saturday night without fear of being shot by a stranger.

“Something definitely needs to change,” she said.
