Man is accused of breaking into several vehicles

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A Jonesboro man is facing multiple charges after police said he broke into several vehicles.

Craighead County Circuit Judge David Boling found probable cause on Friday, September 27, 36-year-old Delosangeles Harper on five counts of breaking or entering a vehicle, three counts of theft of a debit or credit card and charged with one count of theft by receiving a debit card.

Harper was arrested after being linked to five cases of vehicle break-ins and thefts.

According to the initial affidavit, Jonesboro police officers were called to Miller Street on Thursday, June 20, for a report of theft of property in progress.

The victim told officers that security footage showed a man stealing items from the porch of her home and entering her vehicle, “with no apparent break-in.”

A second affidavit states that officers were called to a burglary at the Cedar Heights Apartments on Tuesday, July 30.

The victim told police that someone got into her unlocked vehicle, but nothing appeared to have been stolen. Security footage of the incident showed the suspect getting into the vehicle and “rummaging around as if he was looking for something.”

The affidavit states on Thursday, Aug. 15, officers were called to another burglary at the Cedar Heights Apartments.

Upon arrival, it was discovered that the vehicle had been entered and several items had been taken. Security footage showed the suspect walking nearby at the time of the break-in, with police noting that “he could be seen putting items in the front pocket of his hoodie.”

According to a third affidavit, officers were called to a home on Eldridge Street on Friday, Sept. 6.

The victim told officers that someone entered her vehicle and stole several items, including a diaper bag and a wallet containing identification and debit cards.

The fourth affidavit, dated Wednesday, Sept. 18, said officers were dispatched to a home in the 300 block of North Caraway in reference to a burglary.

The victim said the suspect stole his wallet, phones and debit cards during the break-in.

The victim received a notification from his bank asking whether or not he was using his card for a transaction.

“It was determined that there were multiple transactions from Kum & Go, CVS Pharmacy, IHOP and 24 Hours Cart that he did not authorize,” the affidavit states.

After reviewing security footage from the five cases, Harper was identified as a suspect.

A warrant was issued for Harper's arrest on Tuesday, August 20th and he was arrested on Tuesday, September 24th.

During a Mirandized interview, Harper admitted to the break-ins and taking the items after being shown several photos from the suitcases. He also admitted that the debit cards were stolen on September 6th.

Harper is being held at the Craighead County Detention Center on $150,000 bail. Judge Boiling ordered him to wear a GPS ankle monitor if he fainted.

Harper's arraignment is scheduled for Monday, October 28.
