Italian citizens have been arrested after attempting to enter the United States illegally

BUFFALO, NY – Two Italian citizens who attempted to enter the United States illegally are now facing charges.

The two people arrested Thursday by U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents and U.S. Border Patrol agents — 37-year-old Raffaele Gambino and 60-year-old Calogero Anceschi — were attempting to cross the International Railroad Bridge in Buffalo.

The US Border Patrol discovered the couple using border security technology, the federal agency said in a statement.

“This case is a great example of our excellent relationship with our CBP colleagues at the U.S. Border Patrol,” Port of Buffalo Director Gaetano Cordone said in the statement.

“The ability to quickly share this information between U.S. Border Patrol agents and CBP officers led to the successful apprehension of these two individuals who attempted to enter our country illegally.”

An investigation into Gambino and Anceschi is underway.
