Crash on I-580 westbound in Oakland snarls traffic

CHP issued a severe traffic alert Friday evening after a traffic collision on westbound I-580 in Oakland near Park Blvd. there was an accident involving an overturned vehicle. all lanes blocked.

A short time later, CHP confirmed that all westbound lanes were blocked due to the collision. The incident appeared to be a single-vehicle accident in which the overturned vehicle was traveling at high speed before the accident.

Authorities also said alcohol appeared to have been involved. While CHP said all lanes were closed, cars on the left shoulder of the highway appeared to be passing the incident around 6:10 p.m.

At 6:25 p.m., CHP said the left lanes had reopened, but the right lanes remained closed.

Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternative routes to avoid the area. There is no estimated time for the roadway to reopen.
