Second arrest for murder of man killed over an ounce of marijuana

A second arrest has been made in connection with the murder of an Amarillo man who killed over an ounce of marijuana.

On Friday, police arrested Markeen Tiiedrick Rayshon Walker, 31.

As ABC 7 News first reported, police arrested James Childs Jr. on Sept. 18.

According to court documents obtained exclusively by ABC 7 NewsEvans was shot multiple times on Sept. 17 after meeting a man to sell an ounce of marijuana.

Police recovered three 9mm shell casings near Evans' body at the Cypress Creek Apartments on Jason Ave.

A witness told police he saw Childs and another man pull up in a brown or gold Nissan sedan.

Childs got out and walked toward Evans.

The witness said he then heard three gunshots and saw Childs jump into the Nissan and drive away.

According to court documents obtained exclusively by ABC 7 NewsPolice found a Facebook message thread on Evans' phone. Evans agreed to sell Childs an ounce of marijuana for $200.

A witness managed to pick Childs out of a lineup of photos.

Walker was released from prison on $95,000 bond for a 2023 home burglary. He was also charged with grievous bodily harm.

This case is still pending. In fact, Walker was scheduled to appear in court for a status hearing two days after the murder.

In 2012, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to one year in prison.

Walker was convicted of burglary that same year.
