Friends support man recovering from car accident

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Those who have known Matt Redd for decades say there is a lot to like about him.

Redd was the other man in the car Clint Keown when they had an accident. He is still in hospital recovering from his serious injuries.

“You could tell from the beginning that his work ethic was something that really set him apart,” said former Harrison football coach Jason Watkins.

“A lot of people say, 'Yeah, they were great athletes and great competitors,' but at their core they're great people; and I don’t want people to miss that,” said Aaron Huff, principal of Bosse High School.

A Facebook post from Matt's family said he was working to recover from many things, including severe brain injuries, skull fractures and a lung injury.

His friends say that despite all this, they see small signs of improvement every day that make them optimistic about the future.

You are not alone either. They say friends from all over the area and country came to be with him.

“It’s the number of lives Matt has touched over the years,” Watkins said. “He's just been a tremendous asset to so many people, and I think now we're seeing that support and love for him come back.”

They say Matt was an extraordinary human being, someone who they say would truly “give the shirt off his back.”

His friends say it was his character that caused such a reaction in the community. They hope people will use this time of tragedy to reflect on who Matt and Clint are and how we can be more like them.

“Yes, support Matt, and this is Clint, we want to support their families; But it’s time for us to really think about who we are and who we are as people and think about where we want to be in the future,” Huff said. “How do we want to support each other?”

Matt's friends and family are working to raise money to help his family pay his medical bills.
