Spokane drug counselor suspended after patient's overdose death and alleged affair | Spokane News

OLYMPIA, Wash. – A Spokane drug counselor has had her license revoked after allegations surfaced that she had a sexual relationship with a client who then overdosed and died in her apartment.

According to the Washington State Department of Health (DOH), they have filed an administrative complaint against Beth Floyd, a substance abuse counselor in Spokane, citing allegations of unprofessional conduct and sexual misconduct related to her work at a local clinic. The charges involve a client who tragically died of a drug overdose, although the department has not released the client's name.

Admitted in 2021, Floyd focuses on helping people recover from opioid addiction. Court records say Floyd counseled a client from August 2022 to January 2023 and developed a personal relationship in the process. The former client died of an overdose at Floyd's home on February 14, 2023.

The DOH documents said he obtained a search warrant and searched Floyd's home and reportedly discovered several weapons as well as illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The department said that because of this suspension, Floyd is barred from practicing in Washington state until the case is resolved. Floyd has 20 days to respond to the allegations and can request a hearing to contest them.
