North Carolina candidate Mark Robinson hospitalized after burns 'incident': reports

North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson was hospitalized and treated for burns Friday after an “incident” during his campaign for governor in Mount Airy, a campaign spokesman told multiple news outlets.

According to The Washington Post's Amy Gardner, the controversial Republican candidate suffered burns to his hand after leaning against a truck at the event. The campaign described him as being in “good spirits” despite the hospital stay.

Robinson suffered second-degree burns and is expected to return to the campaign trail Saturday, NewsNation campaign reporter Libbey Dean noted.

According to his Friday plan, detailed by CNN, he was scheduled to stop by the Mayberry Truck Show and Parade in Mount Airy.

NewsNation was first to report the hospitalization.

Robinson's hospitalization comes just over a week after a CNN report linked him to disturbing comments on a porn site in which he referred to himself as a “black Nazi” and described himself as a “pervert” who was addicted to pornography transgender people stands.

Robinson has called the reports “lies” and suggested that the comments on the site “may have happened.”

Several members of his campaign staff have resigned following reports of the scandal, and former President Donald Trump, who has supported Robinson and called him “Martin Luther King on steroids,” told reporters this week that he was “not aware of the situation.” when asked if he would withdraw his support.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
