US media reports that controversial North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Mark Robinson has been hospitalized with burns after an incident at a campaign rally.

CNN reports in the campaign that Robinson was treated at Northern Regional Hospital for second-degree burns “following an incident at a campaign event.”

Robinson, the state's lieutenant governor, is doing well, the campaign said.

The campaign has not said what caused the burns.

A reporter for them Washington Post reported that Robinson burned his hand leaning against a truck at a truck show.

Robinson attended the Mayberry Truck Show in Mt. Airy, News Nation reported.

Robinson is increasingly marginalized by the Republican Party after his alleged inflammatory past comments were reported on a pornography website's message board.

A CNN poll this week shows Democrat Josh Stein leading Robinson among likely voters, 53 percent to 36 percent.
