North Carolina Lieutenant Governor Mark Robinson was hospitalized for second-degree burns following the incident in Mount Airy

MOUNT AIRY, N.C. (WTVD) — NC. Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was hospitalized following an “incident” at a campaign rally Friday night in Mount Airy, a person close to his campaign told ABC News.

Mike Lonergan, communications director for the Robinson campaign, said Robinson was treated for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital following an incident at the campaign event.

“He is in good spirits, is happy about the many congratulations and is looking forward to getting back into the campaign tomorrow morning as planned,” said Lonergan.

The news comes days after several staffers in Robinson's office and campaign team resigned.

Robinson appeared at an event in Boone on Monday where he addressed the recent allegations against him in a CNN report.

The claims, which ABC News has not independently verified, focus on controversial comments Robinson allegedly made on a porn site years ago. Robinson has denied them, calling them “salacious lies.” His campaign said it had hired legal counsel to investigate.

In a news release, Robinson said he is confident that Binnall Law Group of Northern Virginia will “leave no stone unturned and allow us to use all legal means to hold CNN accountable for their lies.” Law firm partner Jesse Binnall has represented former President Donald Trump and his campaign in litigation.
