Glenview man arrested on charges of aggravated assault and hate crime

GLENVIEW, Ill. – A Glenview man was arrested for hitting a person with a pipe and uttering a racial slur toward his victim.

Glenview police said officers arrested 69-year-old Randy Velleff around 9:20 a.m. Friday on a charge of aggravated assault on June 30 in the 1700 block of Grove Street.

The investigation revealed that Velleff used a metal pipe to beat the victim during an argument in the parking lot. According to investigators, the victim was taken to Glenbrook Hospital where he was treated for bruising and released.

Police said Velleff also racially abused the victim.

Velleff was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a hate crime. He is scheduled to appear in court on Saturday.
