Man killed, 2 arrested after deputy-involved shooting in National City

NATIONAL CITY, Calif. (KGTV) – One man is dead and two others have been arrested following a deputy-involved shooting in National City on Friday, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

The shooting occurred just before 2 p.m. in the 200 block of Mile of Cars Way after a driver failed to stop for police, officials said.

Officers said the passenger of the car was shot during the incident. The driver and another passenger were arrested on drug charges.

According to the San Diego Police Department, an undercover sheriff's deputy who was in the area on a separate operation shot the passenger.

The deputy was injured during the altercation and suffered minor cuts from broken glass. He was taken to UCSD Hillcrest for treatment.

Officials said there was no danger to the public but urged residents to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
