Bangkok Post – ONE Championship: Superbon wants Tawanchai title fight in Atlanta after Nattawut elbow KO

The Thai kickboxing legend would “love” to face the featherweight Muay Thai king at ONE 169 on just six weeks’ notice after winning at Friday Fights 81

Superbon has signaled he is ready to come to America and fight ONE Championship Muay Thai king Tawanchai PK Saenchai at featherweight on November 8 in Atlanta.

The 34-year-old Thai defeated Jo Nattawut in Friday's main event at Lumpinee Stadium, potentially allowing him to replace his compatriot at ONE 169.

Nattawut, who lives and trains in the Georgia capital, was seriously injured and could now be ruled out by a medical suspension with the tournament just six weeks away.

“Yes, of course, I will love it because I have been waiting for a rematch with Tawanchai,” Superbon told the Bangkok Post after his win.

“I can fight anywhere. It's up to the boss. I would like to go to America. I have many fans in America. I will go back to training camp immediately as I have not sustained any injuries.”

Superbon, who lost a unanimous decision to Tawanchai in a five-round classic last December, needed just 102 seconds to finish Nattawut in Bangkok.

The interim featherweight kickboxing champion finished with two razor-sharp elbows in the first round of ONE Friday Fights 81. The first hit Nattawut above his right eye, the second landed on his left temple, dropping him to the canvas.

“That's the game plan of course because Jo has good hands – elbows can stop people with good hands,” Superbon added. “Normally I want it to last a little longer, but I didn't expect to knock him out with the elbow. I expected to knock him out with a headbutt.”

Even though his signature headbutt – which he used to knock out Giorgio Petrosyan and Tayfun Ozcan in ONE – wasn't enough this time, Superbon still received a $50,000 performance bonus.

CEO Chatri Sityodtong was visibly impressed considering bonuses on ONE Friday Fights card are usually capped at 350,000 baht.

“I have to thank the boss,” Superbon said.
