One dead, one in hospital in Carthage crash | Police and public records

A woman died and a man was in critical condition after a car crash in Carthage on Tuesday, Carthage Police Chief Blake Smith said.

CPD officers were notified of a one-vehicle accident on North St. Mary Street by the train tracks at approximately 1:57 p.m. Tuesday. An SUV driven by a man was traveling southbound, left the road on the tracks, overturned and came to rest in a business parking lot.

The Carthage Fire Department was called to help rescue the driver and a female passenger. Both were taken to UT Carthage for treatment.

Smith said the man was sent by helicopter for trauma treatment in critical condition.

The woman was pronounced dead, Smith said.

In addition to CFD, Smith noted that Panola County Constables Jeff Ivy and Brack LaGrone assisted on scene and the Texas Department of Public Safety responded to assist with crash reconstruction.
