Shots rang out near Temple University, ending the game early – NBC10 Philadelphia

A field hockey game at the Temple Sports Complex in North Philadelphia was called off shortly after shots were heard in the area, according to a Temple University spokesperson.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in the 1300 block of North Broad Street when the La Salle University and Saint Louis University field hockey teams were playing at the complex, the official said.

The Temple University Department of Public Safety issued an alert to the community as Temple Police and the Philadelphia Police Department responded. An update followed an hour later saying the area had been cleared.

While police investigated, the field hockey teams and spectators were moved from the area to a locker room, officials said. The game was called.

After police cleared the scene, the teams did not resume play and instead left the complex.

Temple University officials are working to contact leaders at La Salle and Saint Louis universities about this incident.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. There is currently no suspect and no victims, officials said.

Officials said they believe the shots were fired near an off-campus fast food restaurant on Broad Street.
