Shawn Johnson describes this frightening incident with 9-month-old son Bear

These genes were created for walking and that's exactly what it is Shawn Johnson EastThe baby will be enough.

Just a few days before the 9th month Carry– the youngest child of the Olympic gymnast and former NFL long snapper Andrew East– took his first steps on September 23rd, Shawn predicted he would be leaving soon.

“He's a very fast crawler,” she explained in an exclusive interview with E! News. “And he’ll be running, I think, in the next two weeks, which is wild.”

However, not quite as crazy as his other sporting achievements.

The day before her interview with E!, Shawn recalled, Bear was walking in a walker when she momentarily lost sight of him.

“He had gone around the corner to the stairs,” the 32-year-old described the scene in her Nashville-area home, “he had crawled out of the walker, and I don’t know how that’s possible for a baby.”, and he had gone all the way up the stairs. I had a real heart attack. 'It's not okay and it's not normal.'”

At least he managed the landing.

But with Bear now on the move, that means all of the athlete's boys will be blowing off some steam before heading to school every morning.

“I feel like we have a pretty good routine,” she said of her tricks for sending her daughter Drew4, and son Jett3, off to preschool. “During the week, when we have school, we don’t do any demonstrations. I feel like if you mix in cartoons or something like that, it's going to be more difficult for us. That's why we'll spend a lot of time playing in the morning.”

While she fills her kids' lunchboxes with essential protein (“We usually rotate pasta, a sandwich, and chicken nuggets”), veggies, fruit, and her beloved Nature's Bakery bars — an obsession that led Shawn to become involved with the brand to help give away $45,000 to busy families – Andrew often referees games.

“My husband is going on a bike ride with the kids,” Shawn shared. “We make breakfast, they’re just free range.”

However, there is one that is non-negotiable.

“This is going to sound ridiculous,” Shawn admitted before revealing that they started blowing up RednexThe catchy tune of a song, “Cotton Eye Joe,” on the way to school. “We play it over and over again throughout the trip and they just dance their hearts out. It’s a vibe, but they love it.”

And that's just one of the reasons why Shawn feels like her family is in winning mode these days.

Jett is thriving as he begins to learn his letters, numbers and shapes, she shared: “And then, my daughter, we're just teaching her to read, which is wild. This is a whole new world.”

As for their future athlete Bear, he's just thrilled to come off the bench.

When his older siblings return from a day at school, Shawn described, “Bear is just beaming, they are really his people and it's fun to see them interact more and more.”

And as her youngest runs off with the rest of the pack, the four-time Olympic medalist simply does her best to capture every memory.

“We take a photo of the kids every morning before they go to school, which is fun,” she shared. “So you can see how much they grow up and change over the course of the year. It’s beautiful.”

This summer also gave her more than a few important memories, as Shawn brought her entire team to the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“It actually exceeded all expectations,” she said. “It was chaotic, but actually manageable. We were able to just be a family and experience a new place, which was really fun.”
