MOUNT AIRY, N.C. — A source within Mark Robinson's campaign confirmed that Robinson was hospitalized following an incident at a campaign event in Mount Airy on Friday, Sept. 27.

“After an incident at a campaign appearance at the Mayberry Truck Show in Mt. Airy, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson was treated for second-degree burns at Northern Regional Hospital this evening. “He is in good spirits and appreciates the many congratulations,” and we look forward to getting back on the campaign trail as planned tomorrow morning,” said Mike Lonergan, communications director for the Robinson campaign.

This comes about a week after the CNN report that claimed Robinson called himself a “black Nazi” and made dozens of sexual and racist comments on a pornography forum.

Five staffers, including the lieutenant governor's top aide, have resigned since the news broke.
