Man charged with assault in Ellwood City bar fight | Local News

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 8 in Lawrence County Central Court for a man who reportedly struck and injured another man at an Ellwood City tavern.

Ellwood City police were called to the Shelby Bar on Fountain Avenue on June 30 for a man bleeding. Police charged 42-year-old Dale Lee Dyke of Stewart Avenue in connection with the reported assault, which passersby said arose from an argument between the two men.

According to police, the man who was attacked suffered facial and back injuries.

According to a criminal complaint, police arrived at the bar around 1:45 a.m. and found the man lying on the sidewalk next to the bar, bleeding from his head and face. The man told police a member of the Mongols Motorcycle Club nicknamed “Reckless” beat him up, the report said.

He told police his attacker approached him outside the tavern, punched him in the head and face and knocked him to the ground, then continued punching and kicking him in the head, face and body, he said it in the court records. Police identified his alleged attacker as Dyke.

A woman who was serving the bar told police that the reported victim was harassing the attacker's girlfriend at the bar and the two men were arguing.

The injured man was taken to UPMC Jameson Hospital for treatment.

Dyke is charged with simple assault and harassment and has been summoned to appear in court on the charges.

Suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty or a court decides against them.
