The College GameDay team discusses Alabama-Georgia, Nick Saban

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – ESPN's College game day Crews took over the quad side of 6th Avenue Friday morning. The desk that college football fans will see on Saturday, September 28th was set up with Denny Chimes in the background, waiting for one of the big games of the season.

GameDay is in town for the Top 5 matchup between No. 4 Alabama (3-0) and No. 2 Georgia (3-0), scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT on ABC. Ahead of the highly anticipated contest, members of the GameDay team spoke with Tuscaloosa reporters to preview the main game, including the host Rece Davis and analyst “Stanford Steve” Coughlin.

Davis, a graduate of the University of Alabama, was excited to be back on campus for the big game.

“Very much so, especially for a game like this,” Davis said. “It’s always great to be here.”

“It feels like a little piece of history is being created here. I said it this way today: They signed Kalen (DeBoer). He convinced the team. He's certainly the boss in the building. But as far as college football as a whole is concerned, he will be the head coach at Alabama tomorrow night.

“And I think it’s a great thing for us to be a part of this big stage for these two powerhouses.”

GameDay's trip to Tuscaloosa for the Georgia game will be Alabama's 59th appearance overall on ESPN's pregame show, tied with Ohio State for the most appearance of all time. The Crimson Tide has a record of 37-21 in their last 58 appearances. College GameDay traveled to the UA campus twice last year and attended the SEC title game and the Rose Bowl. Alabama was 2-2 in those contests.

Saturday's game between Alabama and Georgia will be the head coach's first Kalen DeBoer. During UGA's Kirby Smart is not new to the rivalry, it will be his first time facing Alabama Nick Saban not on the other side. Saban, who retired in January, is part of the GameDay crew and is joined on set by his wife, Miss Terry, who serves as a guest selector.

Both Davis, Coughlin, DeBoer and Saban discussed the game with reporters on Friday.
