Person arrested outside Trump rally in Walker

Walker Police Chief Keith Mankel said the person drove around a checkpoint and ignored police instructions, leading to a brief pursuit.

WALKER, Mich. – One person was arrested Friday outside former President Donald Trump's rally in Walker, according to Walker Police Chief Keith Mankel.

Mankel said the person drove around a checkpoint and ignored police instructions.

When the suspect didn't stop, a short pursuit ensued, according to Mankel.

According to Mankel, the suspect then drove into a neighboring company parking lot and was arrested without further problems.

Mankel said a comment was made about a possible explosive device, but nothing was found.

No one was injured in the incident and the suspect never made it into the protected area, Mankel said.

The suspect will be arraigned Monday in 59th District Court. The Kent County Prosecutor's Office approved the following charges:

  • Count 2: Explosives – Possession of Bombs with Unlawful Intent MCL:750,210
  • Count 3: Officer Fugitive 3rd Degree MCL:750,479
  • Count 4: Resisting/Obstructing Police Officer MCL: 750.81
