A child's call leads to an arrest in a home invasion incident in North Haven

NORTH HAVEN, CT (WFSB) – A 44-year-old man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly entering a home armed with a large knife.

Officers responded to a report of a possible home invasion in Avalon Haven around 6 p.m., triggered by a child who called dispatch to report an unknown man inside the home.

Upon arrival, police found the suspect wearing dark clothing and a ski mask and armed with a large knife.

The adult male resident confronted the intruder with an ax, and the suspect fled when he heard police sirens.

While exploring the area, officers spotted a man emerging from a nearby wooded area and arrested him.

The suspect, identified as Demitrias Terrell, was found in possession of a black ski mask, the large knife and hand wraps typical of boxing.

Terrell was charged with burglary, possession of a dangerous weapon, first-degree menacing, three counts of risk of injury to a minor and first-degree attempted robbery.

He is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
