Police investigate fatal crash in West Forks

According to police, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt

Police are investigating a fatal accident in West Forks that occurred Friday afternoon. Initial investigation revealed that a fully loaded tractor-trailer carrying tree-length logs was traveling south on Route 201 near the Pierce Road intersection when it left the road and struck several trees. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle, Leland Moore, 60, of Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene. Moore was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt. The cause of the accident is still under investigation. The Somerset County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit, as well as the West Forks Fire Department and Upper Kennebec Valley Ambulance Service.
