The crash in Catawba County leaves one person dead and four others injured

Four people were injured and one person was killed in the accident on Friday evening.

CONOVER, N.C. — One person died and several others were injured in a crash in Catawba County Friday evening, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident occurred on Highland Avenue at Fairgrove Church Road around 11:30 p.m.

A 2013 Hyundai Sonata traveling south on Fairgrove Church Road ran a red light and was struck by a 2015 Dodge Ram, officials say.

The driver of the Hyundai, 24-year-old Mauricio Diaz Gomez of Hickory, died at the scene.

A woman and child who were in the car with him were transported to Catawba Valley Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the Dodge and a small passenger were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officials say no charges will be filed in this case.
