Sugar Land jewelry store robbers arrested after police chase

Several people are in custody following a robbery at a Sugar Land mall and a brief police chase.

The incident was first reported by witnesses at the scene on Saturday afternoon shortly after 1:30 p.m. Sugar Land officials say three men attempted a robbery at a jewelry store at First Colony Mall.

A Sugar Land police source said the three burglars smashed the store's glass displays with a window punch and stole jewelry.

After recovering the stolen goods, they ran out of the store and jumped into a getaway car. Police had a detailed description of the vehicle so they were able to quickly catch up with the car on the US-59 feeder road in front of Houston Methodist Hospital.

One of the suspects was immediately arrested, the other two sprinted away on foot. After a short chase on foot, the other two robbers were also arrested.

According to the SLPD source, a woman who witnessed the robbery injured her leg while fleeing the scene, meaning the burglary charge the suspects are facing could be upgraded to robbery charges. The decision as to whether this will happen or not has not yet been made.

This is a developing story. We will provide further information as new details are confirmed.
