Man is accused of stabbing a person during a fight in New Haven

NEW HAVEN, CT – A man is facing charges after police say he stabbed a person and stole several of the victim's items during a fight.

According to New Haven police, officers were dispatched to the area of ​​351 Whaley Ave. just before 10:20 p.m. Friday. called. When they arrived, they found 34-year-old Yannick Williams, who told officers he had been hit in the head with a bottle.

As Williams was being treated by doctors, a knife with traces of blood was found in one of his socks, police said.

Around the same time, police were dispatched to the Yale-New Haven Hospital St. Raphael campus after a 27-year-old man came in and claimed he had been stabbed by Williams.

According to police, the victim said he, Williams and several friends were “hanging out” when Williams became “disrespectful.” A fight ensued and the victim told police he defended himself with a bottle.

Before leaving the scene, police said Williams stole several of the victim's items.

The victim's injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

According to authorities, Williams was charged with second-degree assault and third-degree theft. He is currently being held on a $50,000 bond.
