Man arrested with stolen gun at Walmart in Scarborough

SCARBOROUGH (WGME) – A man was arrested at the Scarborough Walmart after it was reported he was carrying what was believed to be a stolen firearm.

At approximately 12:15 p.m. Saturday, Scarborough Police received information that a man was in possession of a stolen firearm from a neighboring jurisdiction at the Scarborough Walmart.

Officers went to the store and located the suspect, who was identified as 27-year-old Shawn Small.

When officers attempted to arrest Small, he resisted their efforts but was eventually handcuffed.

The suspected stolen firearm was in Small's pocket.

Small was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation.

Scarborough police said Small faces charges of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, refusing to submit to arrest and unlawful possession of prohibited drugs.

Small will also be placed on probation.
