Making progress in the fight against Alzheimer's

JACKSON – A group of local residents is taking steps to help those affected by Alzheimer's disease.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's took place today in Jackson at Rockabilly's Stadium.

The event began at 9 a.m. this morning and offered attendees the opportunity to not only raise awareness of the disease, but also raise funds to support individuals and families affected by the disease.

The Alzheimer's Association Walk is the world's largest fundraising event for Alzheimer's support, research and more.

The event is open to all ages and the walk is free.

Participants are encouraged to raise money to support the cause.

“So if people couldn't come today or were worried about the weather, they can still support us afterwards. You can still donate,” said Don Schwartz, trail leader.

The goal is to raise $72,000.

The Walk to End Alzheimer's is presented annually in over 600 different communities across the country.
