According to police, fatal stabbings occurred during a road rage incident in Turlock. Suspect arrested

A “brief verbal altercation” related to a traffic accident at a Turlock apartment complex Friday evening escalated into a physical altercation and resulted in a man being fatally stabbed, according to police.

Turlock police officers were dispatched to the 2400 block of West Monte Vista Avenue – near the complex – around 10:30 p.m

They found the victim, 49-year-old Enrique Gomez of Turlock, on the ground and began administering first aid, a news release said. Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified the suspect and his vehicle based on witness statements and evidence.

Ahmad Abweny, 28, of Modesto, was arrested hours after the incident. Investigators worked with Modesto police and used license plate readers to locate him.

Abweny was booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on a murder charge.

“This case demonstrates the power of modern technology to improve public safety and ensure the rapid resolution of all crimes committed in our city,” said Turlock Police Chief Jason Hedden.
