Man and woman who died in suspected murder-suicide in Astoria identified

Astoria police have publicly identified the man and woman who died in a murder-suicide at a residence in the city on Wednesday.

Scott Mathew, 57, shot his wife, 51-year-old Denise Lynn Mathew, before shooting himself, police said.

A maintenance worker found the couple dead Wednesday morning in their apartment at the Bayshore Apartments at 1400 West Marine Drive, Astoria Police Chief Stacy Kelly said earlier this week.
