All about Travis Etienne Jr.'s younger brother Trevor Etienne

Brothers Travis Etienne Jr. and Trevor Etienne have achieved success on the football field by pushing each other to be their best.

Travis was a star from his high school years through his career at Clemson to his drafting by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Trevor had a record-setting career at Jennings High School – the same high school Travis attended – which led to him being recruited by the University of Florida, where he played two seasons before transferring to the University of Georgia .

Donnetta Etienne, a nurse, and Travis Etienne Sr., who works in the oil industry, welcomed their son Travis on January 26, 1999 and Trevor on July 9, 2004. The boys grew up in the small town of Jennings, La., with a competitive brotherly bond that pushed them to excel on the field.

“Growing up, my family instilled in us a strong spirituality, loyalty to each other and a drive to be the best. Football became our journey, our passion to achieve greatness at the highest level,” the brothers said in a commercial for Ellianos Coffee.

Travis and Trevor grew up in the small town of Jennings, which has a population of less than 10,000. Travis spoke about how Jennings shaped him during a pregame press conference in 2020.

“It's a very small town. It takes a village to raise a child, so I kind of knew everyone there,” Travis said. “It kept me humble [and] made me who I am today and made me appreciate things a little more because just by being in Jennings, not many people get the opportunities that I have in life. So I’m very grateful, grateful and it’s just helped me with my attitude about life.”

Trevor and Travis grew up with their mother cooking them home-cooked Cajun meals. Travis told ESPN that his favorite meal was scalloped pork chops with corn and rice, while Trevor said his favorite meal was turkey necks with mustard greens and ham hocks.

When the brothers are with their mother, they eat their favorite home-cooked meals as often as possible.

As children, they were enrolled in multiple sports to stay out of trouble

Growing up in a small town like Jennings wasn't always easy for Travis and Trevor. Her parents kept her busy by encouraging her to play different sports.

“We kind of protected them from drugs, alcohol and gangs,” Donnetta told ESPN. “When you finish training and school, you are tired. So we created a three-sport household for each child, and that kept them off the streets and kept them rooted and grounded in their books. That was a good formula.”

Because of their nearly six-year age difference, Travis often acted as a mentor to his little brother, and Trevor wanted to learn everything he could from his big brother.

“When I looked up to him, I wanted to do everything he had done…just follow in his footsteps,” Trevor told Gators Online during a press conference in 2023. “Wherever he went, I wanted to go, so I watched him. “I thank him for doing the right thing…I feel like that's why I'm here today.

Trevor is known as the more vocal and outgoing of the two, while Travis is considered the more reserved brother except when he is with family and close friends. As a child, Trevor even accompanied Travis around to hang out with his friends and play soccer, which annoyed Travis before he realized that his younger brother's soccer skills could help him on the field.

“Everyone always underestimated him, but he was always the best,” Travis told ESPN. “I would always pick him first and we would always win.”

Although they did not attend Jennings High School at the same time, the Etienne brothers left a lasting legacy there. Travis was a breakout star known for his speed and finished his high school career with 8,864 yards and 115 touchdowns.

After watching Travis at Clemson and seeing how they tried to use him, Trevor realized he needed to be more versatile and could play both receiver and running back. Trevor excelled as a versatile running back – he even filled in at quarterback his senior year when the team's starter was injured – and received scholarship offers from across the country.

Travis and Trevor have both influenced each other's post-secondary careers. Trevor knew he had to forge his own path, separate from Travis' superstardom, and Travis not only supported but encouraged that decision.

“I told my brother to go wherever he wants,” Travis told ESPN. “But I told him he’s not Clemson. I wanted him to have his own life.”

Knowing that Trevor looked up to him also inspired Travis to spend his senior year at Clemson, even though he was already good enough to become a top NFL prospect by his junior year. Travis said he did this to show Trevor the importance of graduating and finishing what you started.

“I feel like it put pressure on him,” Trevor told ESPN. “Everything he does is highlighted because I’m watching. He had to do his best at every moment to make sure I was doing the right things.”

They are each other's greatest support

Travis and Trevor sometimes get nervous watching each other play.

“I’m convinced… I was at his first game in Utah. I remember him dropping the ball and it was like my heart dropped,” Travis told the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022. “I feel like when I'm watching, I'm on the field too, and when something happens I get very excited.”… Because of the feelings I have, I'm probably the worst person to be with “I can watch my brother play.”

Trevor was with Travis in 2021 when the older Etienne brother was drafted into the NFL and shared a post on Instagram with a message about what his brother means to him.

“Living our dreams❣️. “I appreciate you being a role model to me and showing me what it takes to get to the next level,” Trevor wrote in the caption. “Grateful for being by my side and pushing me to be my best.” Appreciate everything you do for me! Words cannot describe how proud I am of you❤️. I love you, Brodie.”

Trevor and Travis also encourage each other to improve.

“I remember he sent me a few clips on Snapchat and I immediately started … telling him what he could have done better or how he could have made things happen,” Travis told the Jacksonville Jaguars. “It's been a great run, but I just want him to be the very best, and I feel like I haven't had that person overpowering me… I'm going to continue to help him get better than I was.” .”

Accordingly The athleteWhen Trevor saw one of Travis' games, he joked with his mother that he needed to teach Travis how to play better after a lost catch.

“I have to take your son out and teach him to catch,” Travis told Donnetta during a Clemson game.

As Travis became an NFL star and Trevor found success on the football field in college, they began doing commercials together. In 2023, Travis and Trevor starred in a commercial and collaborated with Ellianos Coffee – a coffee company founded in South Florida – to create two special energy drinks themed to their respective teams.

“The Etienne brothers perfectly embody the spirit of unity, determination and family. They represent what it truly means to be a family and push each other to greatness, just as we at Ellianos have grown with the support of our family,” Scott Stewart, founder of Ellianos Coffee, said in the press release.

The brothers also starred in a Chipotle commercial that highlighted the dynamics of their real-life relationship. The commercial showed Travis watching Trevor practice and giving him tips on how to improve before telling Trevor that he had nailed his Chipotle order.
