“Whoever killed Becky stood over her and emptied the magazine. Fired until there were no more bullets. It was a really, really terrible crime,” said Joshua Jones, assistant district attorney for Adams County, Illinois Killer relationship with Faith JenkinsAirs Saturdays at 8/7c To oxygen.

The 41-year-old had recently undergone surgery and was on the road to recovery, so her three sons were with her estranged husband Tim Bliefnick when she was killed at their home in Quincy, Illinois on February 23, 2023. Police believe the killer climbed onto the roof and broke in through one of the boy's bedroom windows. An autopsy report revealed that Becky was shot 14 times.

“That was significant. Because why would you shoot someone 14 times when you could have shot them twice and killed them?” Quincy Police Chief Adam Yates continued Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins. “It seemed like someone was coming for Becky.”

The police noticed a suspect: Tim Glaubenick.

Tim and Becky Bliefnick's marriage is falling apart

Tim and Becky Bliefnick met when they both attended the same college.

“Becky’s wedding was beautiful. She was so happy,” said Sarah Reilly, Becky’s sister Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins. “Tim was a responsible guy. He had a great job. They had a house. She was overjoyed.”

The young couple quickly had two sons.

“They were so sweet. They were the first on the dance floor. “They were the life of the party,” Christie Krause, Becky’s friend and colleague, continued Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins. “Not many couples immediately say, 'I'm ready to have a baby,' you know, and they were that couple…they were just so excited to be parents.”

But it was only after the birth of their second son that things began to change in their marriage.

“Life with children is challenging, and in the years following the birth of their second child, there was a significant change in their relationship,” said Reilly. “She wanted to have her own career again and that became a point of contention.”

Becky Bliefnick went back to nursing school and gave birth to her third son after graduating. She then became an emergency room nurse. But friends and family said Tim failed to adapt to her demanding career.

“He made no contribution. He wasn't supportive. He scolded her because the house was not clean. “He never said, ‘Can I help you clean the house?’ It was always her job,” Reilly said. “We called her the single married mother because she got little to no help from Tim. And that was the point at which she really believed the marriage was in danger of falling apart.”

When the coronavirus pandemic began in March 2020, Becky began telling her friends about her marital problems.

“She told me that Tim just didn’t want to get married anymore,” Krause said. “I thought, 'Wow,' you know, they were like the perfect couple.”

In January 2021, Tim Bliefnick filed for divorce from Becky. In the spring of 2022, Becky wanted to move on and date, but then, in February 2023, she was found murdered in her home.

What happened to Becky Bliefnick?

Becky Bliefnick's phone showed she tried to call 911 at 1:10 a.m. the night she was killed, giving police a time frame for her murder. Police reviewed surveillance video from a neighboring home that showed an unknown person walking between homes several times in the middle of the night in the days and weeks before Becky's murder. But the footage was too grainy to make out the person's identity.

“It seemed like someone was guarding Becky’s house,” Jones said.

Police also examined surveillance video from a nearby school bus parking lot. On the night of Becky's murder, someone was seen on a bicycle at the time she was killed. Police found the abandoned bike half a mile from Tim Glaubenick's home.

On March 1, 2023, officers obtained a search warrant for Tim's home. Looking at his computer, they discovered he had purchased the abandoned bike on Facebook Marketplace under a false name. That wasn't the only suspicious evidence Tim's computer showed.

“We learned that he had searched for several phrases and terms that just shocked us,” Jones said. “He was looking for a way to break down a door with a crowbar. “How to wipe gunpowder off my hands.” He searched for “Quincy police response time.” It just didn’t seem like the act of an innocent person.”

Police also found an empty gun safe and dozens of bullet casings in Tim's room. Ballistics reports showed that the shell casings were consistent with the shell casings found on Becky's body.

Court documents also revealed that Tim and Becky Bliefnick went through a very difficult and contentious divorce.

“Tim's appearance deteriorated over the course of the divorce… he no longer even looked like the person she married. He became even more vengeful. He became a very hateful person,” Reilly said. “She was convinced that he was willing to do almost anything to prevent her from 'winning' the divorce.”

Tim Bliefnick had applied to the court for sole and/or majority custody of his three children, but Becky had also filed applications.

“We learned that Becky has filed for an order of protection against her estranged husband’s father,” Jones said. “She didn’t want to [Tim’s father] to be unsupervised near their children. And that was one of the problems with the divorce.”

The couple's final divorce hearing was scheduled for about a week after Becky's murder. Documents revealed that Becky planned to reveal a potential family secret and had witnesses testify that her father-in-law had a history of “perverting and abusing underage children,” including an underage family member – which placed enormous stress on Tim Bliefnick.

“That's the moment we knew we had our man,” said Nick Eddy, lead investigator for the Quincy Police Department Killer relationship with Faith Jenkins.

On March 13, 2023, Tim Bliefnick was charged with the murder of his estranged wife, Becky. On May 31, 2023, Tim was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to life in prison. Her sons now live with Becky's parents, who are in the process of adopting them.

“Tim orchestrated the worst horror for my father,” Reilly said. “It wasn’t enough for him to murder my father’s daughter. He had to make sure he found her and that picture was the last thing he had of her.”
