Rep. Clyde votes against Swamp's Status Quo CR

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) released the following statement after voting against HR 9747, a continuing resolution (CR) that extends fiscal year 2024 funding through December 20th. The CR finally passed the House of Representatives this afternoon with a vote of 341 to 82.

“As expected, Washington has returned to its favorite playbook: It has stalled federal funding to give lawmakers more time to prepare a bloated Christmas omnibus.” Clyde said. “Still, Americans deserve better than the status quo stopgap budget in the swamp. House Republicans should have used our influence to – hopefully – steer the funding fight into Republican territory and ensure that only Americans vote in our elections, which is why I supported the six-month CR+SAVE Act. While I'm certainly disappointed that things ended up this way, I look forward to tackling the University Party's runaway spending and damaging policies when the fight for funding resumes. After all, Northeast Georgians sent me to Congress to advocate for responsible fiscal policy and fix Washington’s broken system.”

background

Last week, Rep. Clyde voted for H.R. 9494, a six-month CR that included the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. The SAVE Act, which passed the House of Representatives in July with bipartisan support, would protect our elections by requiring proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections.
