Inter Miami plays at home against Charlotte FC.

The Heron's hopes of breaking through that MLS single-season points record were marred by a third straight MLS draw, this time at home to Charlotte FC.

Dean Smith's visitors were impressive throughout and took the lead early in the second half Karol Swiderski managed to deflect the ball past Drake Callender from close range. In response, Miami increased the tempo and equalized Lionel Messi, who found space on the edge of the penalty area and shot the ball into the bottom corner from 20 meters.

In a hectic final half hour there were chances for both teams, but the biggest of them fell through Luis Suarez in the tenth minute of added time. Messi and Jordi Alba combined to unlock the resolute Charlotte defense, but the Uruguayan fired his shot from close range.

Another disappointing performance from Inter Miami, who need to improve if they want to go deep into the playoffs.
