One person has died and four have been hospitalized in a fatal accident involving impaired drivers

MARANA, Ariz. (KGUN) — A 19-year-old man died and four other people were killed after a high-speed crash that caused impaired driving Saturday morning, Tucson police said.

TPD and the Tucson Fire Department responded to a crash between a Chevrolet Silverado and a Kia Niro on the I-10 Frontage and West Silverlake Road just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday.

The driver and five passengers in the Silverado were taken to Banner University Medical Center with various injuries. The driver of the Niro suffered minor injuries and her passenger was uninjured, so they remained at the scene of the accident.

One of the Silverado's passengers, 19-year-old Risten Lee Robinson, died at the hospital, TPD said.

During the investigation, TPD determined that the driver of the Silverado and the driver of the Niro were both under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs at the time of the accident. TPD said during the investigation they discovered the Niro was traveling west on W. Silverlake RD and turned left onto Frontage Road.

At the same time, the Silverado was traveling south on Frontage Road. at high speed and crashed into the rear of the Niro. According to TPD, the Silverado spun and rolled over, ejecting the five passengers.

According to TPD, the driver of the Silverado's high speed and impaired driving were the primary cause of the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
