A plane crash in the Outer Banks kills several people

The NTSB will investigate the crash.

KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. — A single-engine plane crash in the Outer Banks on Saturday left several people dead, according to Wright Brothers National Memorial First Flight Airport.

The incident occurred on Saturday around 5 p.m. The single-engine plane crashed into a wooded area near First Flight Airport.

According to the Wright Brothers National Memorial Facebook page, witnesses reported that the plane was attempting to land at the airport. After the crash, a fire broke out and destroyed the aircraft.

The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.

There have been several confirmed passenger deaths. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the incident.

The airport said it would remain closed on Sunday.
