Several teenagers have been arrested after fights broke out at football games across the state

CT (WFSB) – Police departments in Norwich, New London and Waterbury say they have arrested several teenagers after several fights broke out at high school football games across the state Friday night.

Waterbury police say they have arrested six teenagers ages 15 to 18 for their involvement in a fight at a Wilby and Derby high school football game at Municipal Stadium.

Yvette Morales lives across the street and says she saw about 20 to 30 patrol cars and an ambulance outside her window, many more than the usual security guards at the stadium.

“I came back from Michaels around 7:45 a.m. and from the stadium to the Citgo gas station I already saw a lot of police, more than I've ever seen before,” she said.

Police said they broke up an argument, but then another altercation broke out when the teens refused officers' orders to separate.

“After a while I was in my house and around 8:30 to 8:45 I heard more sirens,” Morales continued.

According to police, those involved suffered minor injuries and the arrested youths face charges ranging from obstructing police work to inciting a riot.

In Norwich, students and fans were evacuated from the Norwich Free Academy football match. This came after police received calls from the FBI's National Threat Operations Section and the Analysis Crisis Team saying they had discovered a Snapchat post with a picture from the stands threatening a shooting.

According to police, the child involved was arrested.

The Norwich principal was notified and decided to keep the student out of class pending further review by the school board.

Another fight was reported at a New London High School football game. According to police, no one was injured, but a child was arrested.

“I didn't think something so bad could happen, you hear about small scuffles but nothing this big,” Morales said.
