Guns, drugs and explosives found in Missouri carry a 19-year prison sentence

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – An independence man will spend nearly 20 years behind bars after his drug trafficking empire was brought down by law enforcement officials near Lake of the Ozarks.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Missouri says Jonathan P. Henik, 45, was sentenced to 19 years in prison without parole on Wednesday, September 25, after 22 firearms and a large quantity of illegal drugs were found in his home were found and in his two mobile homes in Bagnell.

On April 4, court records showed Henik pleaded guilty:

  • In two cases it was a felon in possession of a firearm
  • 2 counts of possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute
  • Possession of THC with intent to distribute
  • 2 counts of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute
  • Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute
  • Possession of an unregistered firearm

The Independence, Missouri Police Department said officers attempted to stop Henik's Dodge Charger on September 1, 2021 because his driver's license was revoked. However, he left the road and sped away.

A search of Henik's home on October 5, 2021 discovered eleven firearms in his bedroom, two jars of THC wax and paraphernalia in his kitchen, and a black duffel bag in a closet containing a firearm with several rounds of ammunition and nearly 4 ounces of it contained marijuana with paraphernalia.

In Henik's garage, law enforcement officers said they found six more guns, as well as more than 2 pounds of meth, nearly 19 pounds of THC edibles, another 21 pounds of marijuana, a bag of psilocybin mushrooms, several prescription medications, about 40 pills of MDMA and about 4 grams of THC -Edibles.

Court documents revealed that Henik was arrested as recently as August 2, 2023, on a federal warrant related to surveillance of his Sandpiper and Catalina RVs parked in Bagnell. A search of these campers uncovered additional firearms, marijuana, cocaine, several explosive devices, mushrooms and meth.

A search of Henik's SUV also uncovered additional firearms, pills, cash and marijuana. The case was prosecuted by the U.S. Attorney's Office and investigated by the Jackson County Drug Task Force and the Mid Missouri Drug Task Force. No further information was released.
