What's the story?

Google Maps has finally rolled out its incident reporting feature on Android Auto.

Previously, this handy tool was only available on mobile devices, which somewhat limited its usefulness.

However, things changed in July when Google made it available for Apple CarPlay and then announced it would also be available for Android Auto.

It provides reporting options for a variety of road hazards, including accidents, traffic jams, construction work, lane closures and speed traps.

Google is flipping the switch for Android Auto users

Google's latest update follows a flurry of user reports over the past two days, confirming availability via the Google Maps app on Reddit. You can find this feature via a new triangular danger button located just below the compass in the app.

Functionality and limitations of the incident reporting feature

There is a small issue with the incident reporting feature in Android Auto.

First of all, the danger icon will not appear if Android Auto's dashboard layout does not provide enough vertical space for maps.

This small issue came to light during some testing with Maps at a 105 DPI setting over AAWireless.

Once the incident reporting feature is set up, users will receive reminders asking them to confirm whether the reported road hazards are still present on their route.
