Adrian Fontes on voter breakdown

PHOENIX – On this week's AZ Political Podcast, Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes tells the story of how nearly 100,000 Arizona voters were nearly disenfranchised – unable to vote in state and local elections – and why Republicans are looking for I am willing to look the other way if some non-citizens vote in November.

He tells me why he believes this makes some members of the Republican Party hypocrites, and calls his latest opponent in a political race someone who makes money from election lies.

Secretary Fontes and I then address Kamala Harris' visit to the Arizona border and whether it risks alienating progressive voters.

What emerges from this is a larger conversation about the place of immigration in the American dream, the place of racism in the immigration debate, and whether the two major political parties will ever come to an agreement (and legislation) that supports a secure border and a welcoming attitude guaranteed for immigrants – at the same time.
